I've had this idea in the back of my mind for some time but I guess it's time to put it in writing.
As you are aware the holiday season is drawing near and I thought it would be a good idea for us, as fans and as a community, to do something nice for other fans (and chloe to a certain extent). Here's the gist of it: I propose we have a small fund raiser and with all the money we gift copies of hick to various chloe fans (or potential fans) who haven't seen it for one reason or another.
Now let me address some of the more obvious questions:
>buh, buh I don't wanna give money away
unless you're the poorest of poorfags (a mexican) I'm sure you could make a slight financial effort. Everyone could contribute with a minimum of $10 (that would ensure the cost of ONE copy, no matter if we use netflix, itunes, redbox or whatever)
Because while Kick-Ass and Let Me In are must see movies not just for chloe fans but for people in general, hick had a much more gruesome fate. It was a movie that was crucified by critics (one of the lowest rated movies in the history on RT) and a lot of people probably avoided based on that. Although it would be hard to argue that the movie is good it's definitely not as bad as some make it out to be. Not only that but it was chloe's most demanding role so far and her first leading role. So, this is a must see for chloe fans, and if some decided to pass on it because of the abysmal reviews maybe they will finally get a chance to see it if we gift them a copy.
>who will get the copies and how?
Basically chloe fans (or potential fans) who haven't seen it yet and preferably who wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Depending on how much money we raise and how many copies we have to offer we can extend the search for suitable recipients from this place to IMDB and even to dereck martini himself (I'm sure he'd love to help a bunch of fans purchasing copies of his movie for others to see). Once we know who should get the copies we will gift it to them via a system of their choice (itunes, redbox, netflix or what other suitable alternatives there are - preferably digital distribution)
>how will this work?
if we decide to move forward we will start raising the money via paypal in december so that we could end it after 3 weeks and start gifting the copies during the christmas period.
