GG and Penguin, regarding that talk on PhotoShop needing more RAM, would this suffer then?

Sorry, I was lazy so I just pasted the entire spec sheet.
the fact that you're starting with an atom powered tablet is not a good sign
Will this be your main shooping unit, and not a desktop pc?
Your experience with running photoshop on it would probably be "ok". Like GG mentioned, that processor will hold you back. The low amount of ram won't help either. For doing basic stuff it should be fine but I wouldn't recommend this as your main device for shooping.
Another thing to consider is you'll probably only have 40-50 GB of usable storage once you account for the windows installation. Then add photoshop, office, and all of your other programs and files and things could get tight. An sd card would help.

this is not the Gay thread

If I'm not mistaken, the Z3740 supports hyper-threading. It has 4 cores and 4 threads. So, at least it's better off than other Atoms, I guess. Don't worry. My main is my desktop and laptop.>>252
I really love MacBooks but when it came to gaming, it really couldn't keep up anymore. I think Apple's prices would be justified if they at least put high-end graphics cards. Otherwise, I really like Mac but had to retire my MacBook Pro cause the MSi GE60 really suited more of my needs better.>>253
Well, I'll be bringing this to the office everyday cause it's way less of a hassle to carry than my lappy and way less expensive to lose to muggers
. I'll still use my desktop and laptop for Photoshop at home though.
And, yes. I did get a 64gb microSD. Thanks for suggesting! I was thinking at first of getting the 32gb version cause it's only $309. But, I'd end up with 12gb after Windows!
File: 1389020115176_Lenovo_ThinkPad.jpg (136.14 KB, 660x534)
My tablet arrived at my grandpa's house already in LA today. An hour ago, Lenovo released this: http://blog.gsmarena.com/lenovo-launches-new-thinkpad-8-windows-8-1-tablet/
It's got a 2.4GHz Atom processor instead of just 1.8GHz, 1920x1200 resolution instead of 1280x800, USB 3.0, a thinner 8.3mm profile, optional 3G/LTE capability, and an a 128gb variant. My 64gb tablet was $379 while the 32gb WiFi-only version of this is $399. Was my purchase was still more worth the money or am I just telling myself that?
buying stuff right as CES is going on is a bad idea
File: 1389093735158_I_Like_the_Sound_of_That.jpg (55.51 KB, 275x300)
Acer is going to announce it on CES even thought it's released already. Anyways, to get the 64gb one (without 3G) is about $500 already. Also, Asus announced something worse than it but for the same price in CES. I guess that's good enough for me.
About the returning part, I don't think I can return Amazon stuff just cause I don't like it after all, right…?
ahh well i'm not much of a gamer so…
still if you max out a macbook 15" it's pretty fking powerful
>>259> I don't think I can return Amazon stuff just cause I don't like it after all, right…?
tbh I don't know but I;m sure they have some return policy
still, if you're happy with it and don't crave for the newer one then that's all that matters
File: 1389167283650_Thumbs_Up.jpg (67.99 KB, 549x513)
I would've thought so but I read some disclaimer saying that if the product does not work, you may return it. But if Amazon tests it and finds that it works, they'll send it back to you and you'll have to pay a fee amounting to 15% of the product's price or something.
I was just dismayed at first that they launched that Lenovo thing on the day mine arrived at my grandparents' place. But, I figured $399 was the base model. I payed $379 for the 64gb version of mine. That might've been $459 for the Lenovo without LTE. But then, Acer said that that's the product they're announcing at CES and Asus announced at CES a similar tablet with the same price but lesser features… except for a stylus that I don't really need.
Also, it's now been passed to my uncle and will make it to the Philippines when he leaves on the 20th.
So, I guess you're right. I'm super excited. I'll probably just get a newer one within 2 years when storage reaches hundreds of gigs already and it can completely replace my lappy.

Does anyone know where I can buy a small-ish Bluetooth keyboard with touchpad? I kinda like something like this one. My only problem with it is that it has a receiver so it'll take up the only USB port I have on my tablet. That's why I want a Bluetooth one. Also, I've seen some similar Bluetooth ones but they're "mobile sized", too small.>>292
Yeah. It'll be useful in the Philippines too. You leave a car parked out here, you'll be coming back to an over toaster.
File: 1389747199040_91O3fKYGC1L.jpg (560.52 KB, 2560x1762)
There doesn't seem to be a huge selection based on what I saw when I checked.
This Asus one is the best I found. It's meant for another tablet but it should work fine with yours. It's not cheap though. http://www.amazon.com/TranSleeve-Keyboard-Touchpad-VivoTab-Series/dp/B00BAQKU0I
This Samsung keyboard is meant for tv's but again it should work. I saw a review complaining about the track pad though so maybe stay away from this one. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-VG-KBD2000-Wireless-Keyboard/dp/B00BMMPPBE
This one is the cheapest and looks most like the one you posted but I've never heard of Seenda before so I don't know if it's any good. http://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Touchpad/dp/B00GM7WG7A
You can probably find some others if you look harder but the pickings seem slim.
File: 1389778076012_asus_me400_keyboard.jpg (21.57 KB, 500x500)
Yeah. I guess I should stay away from the Samsung one. It looks a bit too big too. The Seenda one is like the Aerb I saw. The Aerb one is the only one that comes out that's small to normal-ish size when I search "Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad" on Amazon. The rest are the mini ones intended primarily for phones. If I search "wireless" instead of "Bluetooth", it gives me the ones with receivers.
The Asus is the most interesting and best-looking one. You're right that it's pricy but it's branded. So, maybe that means I'll most likely find it here and if it's in an official Asus dealer, it might be financially flexible to get in exchange for the hefty price tag. Of course, hopefully, there's a keyboard and touchpad-only version that's hopefully cheaper as well.
Thanks again, Penguin!>>301
Holy keyboard, that is awesome and trippy!

I have a question. This comes with the user manual of the tablet and is kinda contradictory. What do they really wanna say?
File: 1391054976607_And_You_Believe_That.jpg (26.08 KB, 332x343)
Thanks! Battery University is actually my bible for my phones. But, my tablet runs on Windows 8 and has somewhat laptop hardware. I was wondering if it probably had some power cut off that allows me to use it for even just 2 hours after full charge. that's why I went to the manual which showed me that contradiction.
The more you use the battery, the faster it will wear out.
Leaving it plugged in 24/7 isn't good for the battery either though.
You just have to find a good balance I guess.
File: 1391059972500_KEYbOaRD.jpg (58.66 KB, 711x377)
I'm thinking I leave it for a max of 2 hours while I'm using it sometimes. How does that sound?

I know that they all use Lithium-Ion nowadays. I was just wondering if laptops, and therefore tablets similar to laptops, have some sort of auto-switching thing that allows you to use AC power when the batt's fully charged, without the hardware necessarily charging the battery anymore. I thought my answer would come from the manual but those 2 that had something to do with it were contradictory. So, I asked for you guys' help to sort of "translate" to me what they were really talking about.
>>347>some sort of auto-switching thing that allows you to use AC power when the batt's fully charged, without the hardware necessarily charging the battery anymore.
Well yeah, hardware has had that for ages! If it didn't then batteries would blow up! Once the battery is full on any device the hardware switches over to a trickle charge mode to prevent overheating. Apple and other hardware manufactures are now using adaptive hardware charging technologies to further increase battery life as well. I've also seen a few software solutions that attempt to cycle the battery charge within an optimal range of 40-80% while plugged in, but that can be aggravating if you suddenly need to unplug and run for awhile on battery and are stuck with a half charged battery!
My recommendation is to simply use the device and don't worry too much about it except for a few things. First, don't leave it plugged in all the time obviously..let it run on battery regularly to get electrons flowing through the battery. Second, about once a month, do a full cycle charge. Meaning run the battery down until it sleeps, then let it charge to 100% without unplugging. About once a month is optimal, don't do it every other day! Third, as I've already mentioned, don't worry too much about it. Enjoy your new device and just be smart about a few things and the battery should give the manufactures intended performance.
File: 1391103408932_In_My_Opinion.jpg (120.09 KB, 552x509)
>>348>be smart about a few things
Okay, here's what I do with it. I bring it instead of my laptop every day. I download torrents on it and some stuff. Whenever, I lock it in batt mode, it goes to sleep and stops all that. I set plugged-in to let it never sleep. Also, when I've my work done, I watch movies in it. I'm thinking is it alright if I keep it plugged in even for just a maximum of 2 hours after it's fully charged. I still and will still use the battery every day though.

Hey, Penguin! Remember we were talking about the GPU of a tablet in the numbered threads sometime December or November last year?
Well, here's the results of my tab in CPU-Z. I still didn't get much info about the GPU though. Haha.
Note: I didn't include the SPD RAM here cause it had absolutely nothing in it.>>350

Ever since the Note 3 came out with the cool back leather-like cover, I was hoping Samsung came out with one for my Galaxy S4. Now, they just announced a new edition of the latter phone with exactly the same specs as mine but with the awesome black case.
In other words, my wish came true. They released the back cover I wanted for my phone… but for the price of the entire phone… and the phone comes for free. Grrrr….

No.7, I tried removing the RAM module and putting it back again. It didn't work. Since all this started with the nVidia drivers, the supplier told me to try removing the GPU. It didn't work either so I just put it back. I'll get him to come here tomorrow with a new RAM module.
File: 1392537723460_I_Have_Not_Seen_That_Before.jpg (35.98 KB, 334x366)
What's the best way to do that?
File: 1392562071208_CrystalDiskMark.png (29.34 KB, 503x389)
You can use one of these to benchmark your card.http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html
(I'd go with this one)http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/ATTO-Disk-Benchmark.shtml
If you do go with the first one make sure to pay attention when you're installing it.>
The Amazon listing for your card says up to 30MB/s for sequential read speed.
Also, it's a class 10 card which means it is supposed to get minimum 10MB/s sequential write speed.
So those are numbers to aim for when you benchmark it.
The card is UHS-1 (Ultra High Speed) enabled. This is part of the SD 3.0 specification.
According to the Amazon listing for your tablet, it is only SD 2.0 compatible.
This could affect performance a little bit. The listing could also be wrong.
File: 1392565440880_Squential.jpg (53.88 KB, 393x358)
Hey, Penguin! Long time! You killed Batman?
I hate those installation tricks. Haha.
I got bored cause the process is long and these are the results so far. I'll post the final one later though. The write speed is a bit below 10MB/s. That's cause my tablet is SD 2.0, you said?
I want to know because the guys sold this to me for a really cheap price and is offering me another one. My mom might get it for her Samsung Galaxy Note II.
File: 1392567070701_Why_0330.jpg (57.39 KB, 394x356)
The benchmark kinda hanged already….
Those speeds seem about right. It's probably genuine.
>The write speed is a bit below 10MB/s. That's cause my tablet is SD 2.0
Could be. I'd say it's close enough to not be too worried about it though.
File: 1392568690676_Noooo.jpg (89.36 KB, 495x495)
What I'm worried about are the last 4 boxes….
File: 1392569462350.png (97.64 KB, 160x300)
The 4K speeds being a lot slower than the sequential and 512K speeds is very normal.
Don't sweat it.

I have a Palit GeForce GT220 1gb DDR3 129-bit running along side an Athlon II X2 245 and 4gb of DDR3 1333MHz RAM.
I'm not sure if I've been using 332.21 or it was updated recently but around earlier this month, I've been getting "your nVidia driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered". It would keep crashing with that error until I get a BSoD saying VIDEO TDR FAILURE. I tried uninstalling it in safe mode, redownloading, and reinstalling it but the same thing happened. It kept happening until I got a BSoD that said INCOMPATIBLE BOOT DEVICE, and had to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit over it just to get my desktop stuff from the Windows old folder, delete tha partition, recreate the partition, and install the OS again.
I used just the 331.82 drivers to be safe. Nothing was happening but it could also be cause I was extra cautious, I only Photoshopped or watched movies, or browsed the web.
When 334.89 (the newest one came out), I downloaded it and installed it yesterday. It was okay the entire morning and afternoon. I converted a Hawaii Five-0 video and no complaints. I opened a music video then the errors started again until it reached BSoD with VIDEO TDR FAILURE again.
Now, I can't turn on the desktop. It won't show anything. I even removed na the GPU.
Before, this not turning on happened and I had to change the power supply and mother board cause the fan of the latter took a moment before starting. Apparently, it's supposed to spin right away as soon as the system was powered on. Afterwards, it only happened once.
I'm not sure now if all this is driver related or my GPU is busted. Also, I now don't know if all this affected any other part of my CPU.

Building a new recording PC very soonish and need a Nvidia Gfx card (pro tools compatibility reasons). Anyone have any suggestions for a decent gaming card in the 150$aud range?
File: 1393157363496_Palit_GeForce_GT220_1gb_DDR3_128-bit.jpg (32.29 KB, 290x172)
Just for that, a Palit GT220 would actually do you nicely. But, if you wanna max out your budget, try the new GTX 750 or GTX 750 Ti that came out last week.
File: 1393160875745_penguin2.jpg (43.03 KB, 374x372)

It's Palit-branded but nVidia tech.

If you're referring to the Chrome hanging on Chlomo, yeah. Though, it was solved after the reformat. I'm actually hoping it is the GPU cause I'm getting a GTX 580 soon anyway. But, someone said it could probably be Windows 8.1 being unstable and said I should downgrade to Windows 7. But, I got so used to 8.1 already and have been kinda using it since I first got the PC. I also have no problems with it in my laptop.
But as I said, it's not turning on so I can't do anything until the supplier gets here.
File: 1393220859762_tumblr_mrwpmue3iL1r1eiz3o1_500.jpg (30.82 KB, 300x300)
Well, I'm having it brought to someone with Windows 7 and Windows XP I seriously hope you're right! I don't wanna downgrade anymore… reformat or not.>>435
Oops. I was thinking USD. Though, the Ti does go above the price range but just by a tad. I'm still better off getting an nVidia GTX 580 (Galaxy Edition) than a 750 Ti, right? I mean, I don't mind not having Shadow Play.
Also, I'm planning to upgrade my RAM but don't know when yet. At the mean time, I'll stick with 4gb even though 8gb is recommended for the 580. I'm assuming but wanna make sure that that would be alright for now.
File: 1393250705176_sshot-2009-08-27-15-50-21.png (35.15 KB, 602x403)
Sounds like everything that's wrong is just with your hard disk. Back up your files and reformat it. If need be, buy a new one completely. 320gb or 500gb shouldn't be expensive.
Either option, partition it in disk management. For example, if your hard disk is 500gb, right click on it in disk management and choose to shrink it down to 200gb. Right click the now unallocated space and create a partition maxing out the possible space (around 300gb). Install Windows and your programs on the 200gb partition and keep all your files and media on the 300gb part. Should something go wrong in the future, you can reformat the 200gb part without even touching your files.
Also, download Malwarebytes:http://kickass.to/malwarebytes-anti-malware-pro-1-75-0-1300-final-multilanguage-incl-serial-scenedl-t7302136.html
No. 7 introduced it to me. Adware have been popping out considerably less. It also keeps notifying you that it's blocking a lot of stuff which may come off as annoying to others but comes off as assuring to me. I know it's performing its function well.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is finally here.
The screen increased by just 0.1” and is still 1080p. The camera went from 13 to 16 megapixels and from 1080p to 4K UHD video recording.
Though it’s now IP67 certified and waterproof, it’s obviously bigger than the S4 and the fatter bezels make it look like a 1st gen Galaxy Grand (no offense to the owners of those).
They also used the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor as the Note 3 and some current S4 editions. It also kept 2gb of RAM while the Note 3 already has 3.
Even though the USB 3.0 port and waterproofing are of great interest to me, I think I’m leaning towards sticking with my S4 for now cause it’s “prettier”, I don’t need a heart rate monitor (thank you very much), and the S6 might finally have the Snapdragon 610 64-bit processing chip with 4gb of RAM.

Ugh. My GPU's with my uncle for testing. Everything was seemingly working perfectly then this happened.
So you put NEW RAM in that computer? You even fresh installed windows too right? It's hosed bro. It might be the motherboard or even a failing power supply can make computers do crazy shit like that.
File: 1393437031088_Error_2.jpg (3.74 MB, 4128x3096)
I didn't do a fresh install. This followed after the first restart.
File: 1393437179747_Error_3.jpg (4.73 MB, 4128x3096)
It restarted one more time with this, scanned my disk, and so far so good. But, I didn't have the balls to open a video anymore.
Also, I added 4gb of RAM, not changing the first 4gb module.
Talk to you tomorrow. It's 1:51am. Haha.Night, bro.
>>458>I'm a bit hesitant about these mobo options. From their reviews they seem to be riddled with problems. If anyone has any suggestions for Z87 chipset mobo's I'd love to hear it.
It sounds like you just want a rock solid PC and are not interested in overclocking or anything of the sort. If that's the case and you are having a hard time finding a 3rd party mobo in the chipset you want with solid reviews, you can never go wrong with picking up the Intel branded equivalent of that board. It may cost more, and not have all the extra features like OC options etc, but it will be guaranteed to be rock solid and reliable. If you ask me, when you are building a computer to get real work done, you never want to skimp on reliability as the first priority.
Also, I would like to recommend you check out the Samsung 840 Evo SSD's. They really can't be beat for the cost at the moment. For even more durability, the Samsung 840 Pro is another top choice.
Fantastic! thank you. I didn't even see the 840 ssd's while I was browsing but I'll pick up an 840 pro instead of the Kingston HyperX.
The equivalent intel board are an extra 100$ and would have been perfect but the local suppliers don't have any in stock which is a bit frustrating. For now I guess it's more of a Gigabyte vs Asus showdown so I'll just have to keep researching which boards Pro tools seem to like more.
Thanks again for the help
It was more-so for convenience sake. I was going to buy a FW pci-e card but I already had a fw pci card.
I put the PC together yesterday and typing off it now. Only problem I had was a constant red light on the VGA LED (which halted the system boot up). I assume its because my PSU can't power my GFX card. Running on the onboard graphics right now.
If the new PSU doesn't fix the problem then I guess I have to RMA the card :(

So, my PC's parts were replaced and upgraded today. I got:
- MoBo: ASRock N68C-GS FX
- CPU: AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz Quad-Core
I already have 8gb of DDR3 1333MHz memory and am about to get a Galaxy GTX 580 unless my dad's friend finds me a good deal for a Galaxy GTX 670 or a Galaxy GTX 770. Either way, I have to upgrade my PSU to a true-rated 700w (just to be sure) and a different case.

I'm happy I've finally completed my set-up for now:
- CPU: AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz quad-core
- GPU: Galaxy GeForce GTX 580 1536mb GDDR5 384-bit
- RAM: 8gb (4x2) DDR3 1333MHz
- Mobo: ASRock N68C-GS FX
- Casing: AeroCool VS3 Advance with 2 AeroCool 120mm fans, and 3 Cougar 120mm LED fans
- PSU: Antec True-Rated Modular 750w
The best part is I haven't experience BSoD yet since I upgraded my processor last week! Haha.

What causes this and how do I fix it? (drive is external 2TB )
Already tried running chkdsk with /f /r switches but after 16 hours force closed it bc it was only on 2% and seemed stuck.
Ran chkdsk with just /f switch and it finished.
Restarted utorrent and still getting same errors.
Is that the only torrent that gets the error? If so, I'd just delete it and start again. If more than one, the hard drive is possibly starting to fail.
Unfortunantly it's one of those errors that uTorrent doesn't provide any real help onhttp://www.utorrent.com/help/faq/errors#faq4

Good advice right there. and if you start seeing more of those errors or other errors with data on that drive start looking to get the remaining data off as soon as possible/ reformat/ run sectors scan etc or you might end up like this>

I see you've a water-cooling system! That's awesome. I really want one but have no need for it right now. I've 2 upper fans in exhaust and 3 intake ones under.
Also, is that light part of the build or is that just a light? If it's part of it, that's way wicked! Haha.>>526

lol, I have 20 TB of storage bro I don't even know how you survive with 500gb.
>I'm planning of getting 2 pieces of 320gb hard disks and setting them in a RAID 0 config!
What type of drives? 2.5" laptop drives?
Like penguin said, do backups! Striping drives in raid 0 doubles your chances of loosing data due to drive failure because if either drive fails you lose everything. I'm not trying to discourage you, just do backups, but seriously why on earth would you do a setup like that? I ran raid 0 on my boot drive for a couple years before SSD came along and prices came down and after moving to a SINGLE SSD I will never look back. I suggest for real speed you accept nothing less than SSD. A single SSD will stomp any dual drive raid 0 array of any mechanical disks hands down.
The only advantage of mechanical drives is the price per gigabyte so people like me that needs terabytes of storage must still rely on them. For someone like yourself who seems to be okay with 500GB, just pick up a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD and call it a day!
File: 1396582494651_That_is_So_Awesome.jpg (24.64 KB, 300x322)
The set-up I'm planning is a double 320gb in RAID 0 config. That'll be where I put just Windows and and my 500gb will be separate for all my media, docs, and files.
Especially in the Philippines, the price of 2 320gb HDDs are waaaaay lower than a single 256gb SSD. But when the time comes a 512gb SSD is out, I'll probably consider it.
Though now that I come to think of it, I might upgrade the 500gb HDD too cause I only have around 100gb left for files….

>>533>the price of 2 320gb HDDs are waaaaay lower than a single 256gb SSD
It's your money so it's up to you, but I think it makes more sense to go with an SSD. Like No. 7 said, the SSD will crush the RAID 0 config in performance and be more reliable.
A 250GB SSD for the OS and programs and then HDDs for everything else.
You could bump it down to a 120GB SSD if price is a big issue.
The 640GB that you would get with two 320's in RAID 0 would just go to waste.
I also recommend the Samsung 840 Evo.>>534
You can get them in a lot of colors.
File: 1396702374248_Chlorang.jpg (1.26 MB, 2270x3212)
Yeah. RAID 0 will leave me with just 320gb but that was the idea. I actually wanted to just try out RAID. I'm curious. But you're right, it's a waist of money. I prolly will just get a 256gb SSD later on. Thanks!
I'll definitely get one in orange if I get one!
File: 1396712548468.jpg (30.1 KB, 173x174)
>>538>RAID 0 will leave me with just 320gb
That would be true with RAID 1. With RAID 0 you don't lose any storage space because there's no redundancy. What I meant by it being a waste is that you don't need that much space for a your boot drive if it's just being used for the OS and programs.
>I prolly will just get a 256gb SSD later on.

Oh. I didn't understand the logic behind striping that well it appears. If I'll try it out, I could probably use 2 160gb HDDs then!
>>540>I could probably use 2 160gb HDDs then!
Please don't. I'm assuming you would be using 5400 rpm 2.5" laptop drives.
#1 Most laptop drives are sluggish compared to desktop models.
#2 160GB drives are going to be old tech..even slower yet
#3 5400 rpm drives ..sloowww
Stripping drives like this into a raid 0 will not be that impressive at all. Seriously, just don't even bother.

the speed stays on 0 or very slow but the progress bar increases quickly and it eventually fails and says something about out of retention
can you test it and see if it downloads for you?
i'm using NewsDemon and Sab btw
It's not the biggest problem because I can usually find another nzb that will work but i want to know what's causing some of them to fail and how to advoid them

A DMCA takedown request is the cause. This has been an unfortunate thing for a couple of years now. When it happens you can do one of a few things.
1. Find a different upload/nzb
2. Add backup block accounts. These are accounts you pay for say 100GB of downloads from for life and then sabnzbd uses them only when your main server (newsdemon) can't find the files. I have acquired block accounts with astraweb.com, blocknews.net, ssl-news.info, and tweaknews.eu over the years. Tweaknews is usually the best for me, but in this case ssl-news appears to still have the files..i guess that's why it's good to have more than one ha.
3. Find a torrent or file locker copy.

oops! 3rd isn't dead you just gotta have an exact link which i forgot abouthttp://nzb.su/index.php
but it appears registrations are currently closed on it too
i guess i don't have invites on those top 3 since i'm not a paid member -_-

Why is it that no matter what phone I've been using all these years, apparently, images are always sharper when the flash is on? At times, it even gets considerably blurrier when off.
It's not your phone, it's simple photographic principles. It could get complicated with me explaining in detail about how shutter speed, aperture, light, and exposure work in photography, but I'll make it super simple:
The flash on your phone increases the light and thus lets your camera take the photo with a faster shutter speed. Example: if the shutter speed is raised from 1/10 of a second (with no flash) to 1/250 of a second (with flash) it is able to capture the photo much faster before your hand is able to create blur in the photo. The blur you see when not using flash is from your hand not being able to hold the phone steady enough for long enough..the flash eliminates this issue in poor lighting conditions.
File: 1398229135156_Hmmmm.jpg (12.17 KB, 267x282)
What I'm also talking about is even if I'm taking photos in places that have so much light that the presence or absence of flash would not make a difference. In those scenarios, I still notice that having the flash on makes the quality sharper. Is it cause the shutter speed is still faster?
I like taking pictures of lots of stuff that's sometimes embarrassing. So, I don't like people seeing my flash go on. Also, sometimes, the picture's lighting makes a non-flash photo appear better in terms of saturation (for example) but it's a bit blurry or not as detailed.

You should get a Palit GT220 1gb DDR3 128-bit then.
Though, you can take it up a notch and get the new GTX 750. It's actually not expensive, just about $150 or a bit more.
File: 1398785922395_7.jpg (52.36 KB, 388x426)
Yeah, well you are the best judge of what you need. Keep in mind the integrated graphics have jumped leaps and bounds in the last couple of years and are able to drive super hi quad-hd displays pretty decently on these modern laptops. Given that, if you are doing editing on a frequent basis then it's probably best to spring an extra ~$150-200 and get a solid mid-tier GPU. No need to go top end unless you plan to do some major after effects work and really want to get into some serious gaming. >>601>You should get a Palit GT220 1gb DDR3 128-bit then.
>It's actually not expensive, just about $150 or a bit more.
I just wanted to point out this coming from the guy who was complaining about not wanting to spend $150 on a decent SSD and instead wanted to save a few $$ and raid-0 some slow ass 2.5" 5400rpm laptop drives together into something that probably wouldn't even perform as good as the fastest single 7200rpm desktop drive, or that link to the $250 orange external 2tb drive that you could get for about $100 if you don't require it to be safe from being ran over by a car..I never leave my external drives in parking lots so I don't find the feature useful anyway. >

I'm looking at going with the GTX660 2GB card.http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=893

File: 1398849553147_galaxy-gtx-580-heatsink-1.jpg (38.37 KB, 600x399)
I'm assuming the prices are more or less the same? The Gigabyte does look better cause it's clocks are slightly higher but even though you wouldn't really feel that small a discrepancy, the 2 fans are definitely a plus.
I was choosing between 2 GPUs my dad's friend was offering me: a Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 Ti and a Galaxy GeForce GTX 580. The way I saw it, the 660 had more features since it's newer but the 580 had more power. I also double checked that with benchmarks online. Plus, it had 3 fans. So, coming down to features vs processing prowess, I just picked the latter. Maybe you wanna get one. Though, I'm not sure if they're more or less the same price where you'll look for them.
between those two I would choose the gigabyte >>607

Well, it appears the GTX 760 is out of reach for you at that price point…would you consider AMD?
How about the Radeon R9 270x or R9 270? It wins in that price point currently..but again, not sure of the prices over there though.http://www.anandtech.com/show/7888/best-video-cards-march-2014

Is it the same like the AMD processors? I dunno if it's just me but I kinda find that in the same price point, AMD has better performing processors… but over all, Intel's best ones outperform the best ones of AMD.
I got my AMD FX-4100 brand new for less than $100.
>>619>is there much of a difference between brands?
Not much for most people honestly. ATI and Nvidia have been back and forth for the performance crown for years now. The biggest differences off the top of my head is with some applications that have CUDA support so since that's an Nvidia thing it's a plus for them if you need it. Then of course drivers. For a time there ATI and Nvidia have had driver problems (stability) and most recently ATI had them i guess, but on windows I don't think you will have issues with either. If you are on linux nvidia's driver support is hands above ATI, but you're gonna use Win 8 I assume. >>620
I said AMD out of habit cuz AMD bought ATI several years back. Their GPU (ATI) and Processors divisions are separate entities so don't try to compare them. Yes, Intel in the last several years is pretty much superior to AMD in every way. Way back before the intel core processors it wasn't always that way, but once Intel took the lead they really never looked back.
Yeah kinda so and kinda not, but give 8.1 a try it's a pretty nice release and they have made some changes to make it easier for desktop users…later they will be bringing back a real start menu too but there's several good addons to bring the start menu back until then. I just feel 8.1 runs better on the same hardware as 7. Both are good releases though.>>623>you are going to stop using XP VM's
Correct. >I thought security updates wouldn't be a problem as long as your main OS is still getting them.
It's not as big of an issue but it's an issue still the same. I don't want to run VM's that could become compromised just the same as a normal internet connected computer would. It wouldn't be my main OS compromised, but the VM could become a bot or get malware and fuck up and it's not worth the risk and the time to fix these issues/restore from snapshots etc especially when simply moving to a supported OS version will eliminate most of these issues anyway.

I mean, there are combos like these:http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Bluetooth-Portable-Keyboard-Adjustable/dp/B00FY6ZAK0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399198434&sr=8-3&keywords=Bluetooth+keyboard+and+mouse
However, if I buy a Bluetooth keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse separately, would they work together or will I receive an error that I can't connect a 2nd device after connecting the first?
Yes, and Yes>The official Bluetooth specifications state seven is the maximum number of Bluetooth devices that can be connected at once. However, three to four devices is a practical limit, depending on the types of devices and profiles are used. Some devices require more Bluetooth data, so they are more demanding than other devices.
Keyboards and Mice are very low data demand devices so they should not stand in the way of you even hooking up another 1 or 2 devices (like a bluetooth headset as a 3rd device for example)
The only gotcha is making sure your tablet supports those devices. Just try to verify that first and you shouldn't have issues.

Really, a 960gb SSD? I'm either under a really heavy rock or wow… it's a 960gb SSD….>>650
Every time I try to do disk cleanup, it always doesn't finish at around 80-90%.
install treesize http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/
see what's eating up space
>>663>under a really heavy rock
that's the correct answer
Also, I don't have any experience with tablets like yours but it sounds like you have enough info to start googling the issue to see if others report it/suggest a fix.

I'll tried C-Cleaner already but I guess I'll try that too. Thanks, GG.>>670
I did. No luck with the results. Though, I did just search Windows 8.1 in general instead of my tablet. Anyways, I'll try what GG said too.

i dunno if my internet sucked or this is just as it is and i'm just too dumb to know that.
this kept on happening.
>>674>dat 20 GB SoftwareDistribution folder
wow wtf ..fucking windows update has went haywire or something because you've got about 14 tmp folders in there of the exact same size like it has failed and remade the folder over and over again or some stupid shit
(toward the bottom of that page)
The %windir%\softwaredistribution\downloads folder is used by Windows Update to store downloaded updates. Typically, you do not have to manage this folder because it is managed by Windows. The typical size of this folder is determined by several factors such as the operating system version, what updates are available at the time, and so on. Therefore, it is difficult to provide a typical size expectation. If this folder uses lots of disk space, first install all available updates for the system, and then restart the computer. To troubleshoot this issue if the size still remains large, follow these steps:
At an elevated command prompt, run the following command:
Net Stop WUAUSERV
Delete the contents of the %windir%\softwaredistribution\downloads folder.
At an elevated command prompt, run the following command:
Net Start WUAUSERV

Thanks for the help! Though, let me get this straight: I can't just delete them?
>windows update has went haywire or something
I guess that's cause it runs as autoupdates on the background. Whenever I lock the tablet, it doesn't just shut the display like any other tablet running on Android or iOS. It goes to sleep. So, I think that may be aggravating or creating the problem too.

>>677>Net Stop WUAUSERV
I keep getting "The service is stopping or starting. Please try again later."
File: 1400413473480_Noooo.jpg (89.36 KB, 495x495)
I already tried everything else. I have under 4gb left.
So you tried to make sure first that you went into windows update, checked for updates, let it install all available updates, and did a full restart or shutdown?
>Though, let me get this straight: I can't just delete them?
I'm assuming you can't without stopping the windows update service first, but you can try to anyway! If it fails then you know why. It's safe to delete anything in that downloads folder. Again, a fresh (real)restart could do wonders…you also need to be doing this from an account with administrator privilege.
I should have added these instructions too. The steps above request that you run the commands from and elevated command prompt, but don't tell you how to get an elevated command prompt.
This guide give several ways you can open an elevated command prompt:http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2754-elevated-command-prompt-open-windows-8-a.html

Windows Update didn't even wanna load. So, I tried everything while skipping it. Anyways, I'm restarting the tab now. I hope I can do everything properly.
I dunno how to format this tablet. There's no boot menu. I guess I'll have to use a System Recovery option (refresh, etc) for that but don't plan on doing so until after I get back from SoKor.
File: 1400415383714_Chloe_Moretz_at_LAX_May_29_2012.jpg (727.48 KB, 3000x2100)
I've already restarted the tablet, Windows said that there are new updates but didn't install them and there's no "update and restart" option in the shut down button either.
I thought what you meant by a "real restart" was reformatting. I properly restart my tablet every day.
File: 1400415392725_elevated_command_prompt.png (52.5 KB, 296x440)
actually the easiest way to get an elevated command prompt isn't even covered there
from the desktop, right click on the start button at the bottom right and you will see an option to run the command prompt as admin…but you gotta be logged in with an admin level account as well is all

Obviously, the disk clean up tool did not work. Otherwise, I wouldn't be doing this. I always get an "error 87" with the Superseded thing. With the ResetBase thing, it always tells me that no "Windows Update Back Up Files" were found. As for that other cleanup thing, every time I press "run", nothing happens - before and after the restart.>>690
One of my searches got me there but just for the "run" option. What I do for the elevated command promt is search for it then run it as admin. Would that be different?
>>692>What I do for the elevated command promt is search for it then run it as admin. Would that be different?
That would be no different, there's just several different ways of doing it.
Another thing you could try is going into file explorer and right clicking the C: drive > properties > disk cleanup > let it run and choose > cleanup system files > let it run > make sure to check off the box for "windows update cleanup" and anything else you want to get rid of (it's all safe to delete)
then restart and see if that clears up the space
File: 1400419547677_stop_start_wuauserv.png (20.19 KB, 677x405)
and just so you know it's possible
I stopped and started wuauserv without issue. I was able to delete things from the softwaredistrubution\download folder with the svc stopped and then restarted the service with no issues
File: 1400421019555_You_Have_a_Point.jpg (145.96 KB, 587x537)
That's the first thing I always do. I've already done it a lot, nothing changed. I even cleared my shadow copies.>>694
I wonder what's wrong on my end. You said it won't hurt if I manually delete the folders?
File: 1400421845080_20140518_215914.jpg (674.26 KB, 2593x805)
I tried again! It suddenly worked! I've over 20gigs more of space suddenly! Thanks again, Mr. 7!
File: 1400422587718_21.jpg (19.57 KB, 192x176)
Cool! now you're gonna want to restart and run windows update again and hopefully it's gonna run correctly/install any missing updates
if you continue to have problems you will need to delete the entire softwaredistrubution folder the same way
File: 1400422732468_Woah_Look_at_That.jpg (29.07 KB, 300x379)
I just performed a restart cause Net Start WUAUSERV is the one that doesn't wanna work this time. I'll run Windows Update. Thanks again!
Also, Malwarebytes doesn't hinder my torrent's speed, right?
File: 1400423118077_Ooh_I_See_What_You_Did_There.jpg (46.63 KB, 514x570)
I use the Pro version. :Pirated
But even if it did, it's not bothering me anyways.
I finished the updates. I've 19.4gb left. It's kinda 6gigs less than I anticipated but it's better than freakin' 3.56gb. I can handle it from here. Thank you again!

I thought this could just have something to do with whatever was eating up my memory, but apparently, it's not. It still happened to me last night.
When I sleep at night, I leave Chlomo and Twitter open on my tablet. The next day, I'd have around 5% off my battery eaten off.
For the last few days (same time I noticed the memory thing), I noticed that my battery would be at around 65-70% after charging it full then going to sleep. that's for about 7 or less hours. When I bring it with me the whole day, for about 9 hours or more, it doesn't drain as much battery. It also just loses about 5%.

You are technology cursed. It is time to sell all worldly possessions. With the money you raise from the sale of these items, you will then travel to Tibet and become a Bhikkhu Monk. Good luck to you.or learn to enjoy being a beta tester for MS as they work out all the bugs they have in Win 8.x on tablets

But, this just started happening. I'll try batt monitoring apps.
File: 1400517910357_You_Have_a_Point.jpg (145.96 KB, 587x537)
Well, I shut it down then turned it on later on instead of just performing a restart. I hope to God that this works.
File: 1400600567113_Too_Amazed_to_Move.gif (1.39 MB, 245x200)
NUMBER SEVEN, I did and noticed the following:
1. I ran the Windows battery report which showed me capacity instead of percentage. I always charged at full capacity (as the original state of the battery) and it really drains down that much.
2. The draining time is the same, whether I use it or not. Well, it's probably just a tiny bit less when I'm not. It's kinda like it drains in 5 hours when I'm not using it the same amount it would drain if I was using it for 3 hours.
3. I've already reformatted it.
I think I'll try manually putting it to sleep at night or hibernate it, and see if that works.

I mean, I know it's a cooling system but KitGuru never mentioned the brand or model.

I was right in choosing 1600 CL7 over 1866 CL8, right?
I also assumed so cause it was more expensive.
